About
the Author
I am Jonathan Farley, a software
developer from Scotland who stopped smoking at the age of
27 after 15 years. I was never a 'heavy' smoker, but at the
same time I have never been able to stop permanently. I stopped
for the first time ten years ago and I found it so easy that
I have managed to do it ten times since! That's right, every
year for the last ten years I have gone through the same routine.
After the excess of the Festive period, I would decide that
smoking was bad for me and I would simply stop dead (bad choice
of words, I know). Then, for three to six months I would not
smoke, would not be tempted to smoke and not really miss it.
Then it would start - I would
be so confident that I was not hooked any more that I would
go out socially and allow myself the treat of a cigarette.
In fact, I could have fifteen to twenty cigarettes in a night
and still wake up the next day feeling no ill-effects - no
craving, no sickness, no cough and I would think that I had
hit the jackpot - 'I can smoke socially and not get hooked
again'. Then the social events would become more frequent,
my smoking would get heavier and heavier and I was still convinced
that I had it under control. Then eventually, I would have
a bad day at work and decide that I would go outside with
the other smokers and have a cigarette - just to calm me down.
Then I would smoke more and more until I realised that I was
a smoker again.
The truth is that I was a
smoker again as soon as I had my first relapse. It managed
to get me hooked again year after year because I expected
the craving the next day to be as strong as it was the day
that I stopped smoking. But since stopping, all of my dependence
on cigarettes had left me and all of the nicotine had washed
out of my system - I had effectively wiped the slate clean
and started again. So because the craving was so slight after
that first one, it was unnoticeable. Then, before I knew it,
I was addicted as before and would have to go through the
whole process again.
This time, however, I decided
that I had had enough and a new approach was needed - one
that would stop me smoking for good. Out of this idea was
born the SmokeWorm plan.
You can get a good idea of
how the plan works from reading through the site. If you think
it will be of benefit to you or to others, click on the 'Buy
The Book' link on the left of the screen
I hope you enjoy your visit,
and above all I hope you enjoy stopping smoking.
All the best,
Jonathan.
