Why SmokeWorm?

My idea was to write an abstract story that people could relate to. Smokers are so close to their addiction and it forms such an integral part of their lives that they cannot clearly see the whole picture.

The SmokeWorm is a parasite that lives in your body, it feeds on you but does not want to kill you. It needs you to feed it to allow it to grow big and strong. The bigger and stronger the SmokeWorm, the more it needs to be fed to keep it satisfied.

If a person knew that they were infected with such a parasite that was feeding off them and slowly killing them, they would take all possible steps to get rid of it.

So, if I can convince smokers that their addiction is the same as being infected by a parasite that lives inside and feeds off their brain, they will hopefully want to do something about it. Particularly when they know that:

• The parasite can easily spread to children
• It can easily be destroyed
• It can be enjoyable to get rid of it
• Getting rid of it will lead to better health, confidence and happiness and lower stress
• Getting rid of it will lead to a better family life, work life and sex life
